I’m back with a post about my favorite beauty products that I frequently used in 2015 and continue to use now. First, on my favorite beauty products list is the Make Up For Ever Ultra HD Invisible Cover Foundation.
I had been using MAC Cosmetics Studio Fix Fluid SPF 15 for a while in the shade NC50. The person at MAC recommended the shade and foundation because I informed her I have oily and acne prone skin. I liked that the foundation has a matte finish.
However, I HATED how caked my skin appeared when I build on the coverage. I always thought that the formulation of the foundation makes it really hard for me to blend or buff it on my skin. I would get annoyed when the foundation would separate on my nose. I disliked how noticeable it was wearing this makeup – having family mention my face looked light and after an hour or two, the foundation finally oxidized to my skin tone. Worse of all, I break out when I wear this foundation.
After looking at YouTube reviews, doing my own research, and debating with myself, I got color matched for the Make Up For Ever Ultra HD Invisible Cover Foundation at Sephora and took a sample home. I fell in love, got another sample, and eventually bit the bullet and bought it. I tried it and felt Beyoncé “FLAWLESS”!
What I like about it: I love the feel of this foundation! It gives off a satin finish, is lightweight and looks like my skin but BETTER! The color matches when I first put it on and if I want to build it up to full coverage, I’m flawless without having to use concealer afterward.
With the foundation being a satin finish, if you have oily skin I recommend that you use a matte primer, lightly powder your face, and use a setting spray. My recommendations are: Make Up For Ever Step 1 Skin Equalizer Mattifying Primer, BECCA Ever-Matte Poreless Priming Perfector, Make Up For Ever HD Microfinish Powder and Urban Decay All Nighter Long-Lasting Makeup Setting Spray.
I tried the second favorite beauty product from Ole Henriksen Fresh Start Eye Creme on a whim when I saw it at T.J. Maxx for $14.99! I’m happy that I picked this up! I’m in my mid-twenties so I can’t really attest to the anti-aging properties but there’s nothing wrong with early prevention, right?
What I like about it: The size of the container is perfect and I know it will last me for a long time. A little goes a long way. I also like that the consistency is thick and is very moisturizing. The only downside I noticed is that sometimes when I wear this I get a tingly sensation around my eyes. Some people may wear this both during the day and at night but I prefer to use this when I’m trying to get some beauty sleep.
The third favorite beauty product, Jack Black Intense Therapy Lip Balm is my new beauty essential. I used Chapstick, Carmex, Rosebud Salve, EOS and more. Anything you could possibly name I probably tried and it never really healed my chapped lips. I bought this on a whim when I was at Ulta and happy that I picked this up. I would wear this to bed and wake up to my lips still being moisturized. I have used this A LOT this past winter (winters in NYC are terrible) and my lips are soft, smooth, and hydrated.
What I like about it: What’s not to like about this? It’s SUPER moisturizing, the flavors smell amazing (makes me want to eat my own lips especially the Grapefruit & Ginger lip balm :X), is hygienic, and lasts a long time on my lips.
The fourth favorite beauty product on my list, BECCA Shimmering Skin Perfector Pressed has been hyped up all over the place and I have to say it is with good reason. BECCA products, especially their highlighters look AMAZING on women of color. They are very pigmented, finely milled, and feel silky. I never used highlighters before and I’m very happy that my first highlighters were from BECCA. This is my FAVORITE part when I put makeup on.
What I like about it: I like how these particular shades of this highlighter look so beautiful on dark skin. I use the rose gold highlighter when I wear nude lipstick or I want to have a “my skin but better” glow. The blushed copper highlighter (can also be used as a blush) is perfect for that sun kissed glow. Finally, the champagne gold highlighter is for those days or nights where you don’t care to be subtle and want your face to be seen by everyone. A warning with this, please use a little product when you first apply it and if you want or need to you can build it up.
Finally, the fifth and sixth items on my favorite beauty products list is the Clarisonic Mia 2 and Paula’s Choice Clear Regular Strength Two Week Trial Kit. I love my Clarisonic Mia 2 and Paula’s Choice Clear Regular Strength Two Week Trial Kit (Full size is here) now that I’m trying to incorporate having a consistent skincare regimen. I’m proud to say I have been on top of washing my face day and night, especially when I wear makeup.
What I like about it: Using the Clarisonic has made cleaning and exfoliating my face so FAST and EASY! It has made my complexion smoother, my pores look smaller, and when I wear makeup it takes EVERYTHING off. Most importantly, my Clarisonic Mia 2 has made applying makeup smoother. Paula’s Choice Clear Kit has made the appearance of my face look better without drying it out. I still have breakouts but they clear up within a few days when I use this product regularly. It is a 3 piece kit that includes a cleanser, toner or exfoliant (the name Paula’s Choice uses for that product), and a blemish treatment cream. While it is not the cheapest acne kit out there, I think with the results I have seen with it is worth the money.
